With the spread of COVID-19 and the resulting need to quarantine, having the ability to work remotely is fast becoming an essential commodity. Not everyone or every position can be remote, or at least not full time. How do you make the transition? How do you keep connections and files secure?
Making the transition is not a simple answer. There are a lot of variables and the size and needs of your staff along with budget would determine the answer. Supplying staff with Chromebooks is a budget friendly way to get everyone a solid device that is secure and fast, but there can be drawbacks.
How about staying in contact? There is a solid variety of online meeting tools to meet just about any budget and need, but what if you just need a phone service so your staff don’t incur charges on their devices. Several VoIP providers have apps that can be installed on a cell phone that will use WiFi instead of data for making calls, and the caller ID number can be changed to your staff aren’t giving out their personal mobile device numbers.
There are multiple other considerations regarding IT best practices and moving staff to a remote work setup and each company is going to need something slightly different. Things are changing daily and every region is responding differently, but remote work might be a necessary tool for the foreseeable future.
